Thumbnails, image, and lightbox/thickbox link to big image on same page

I have read the wiki and all the "read this before posting" posts pertaining to MaxiGallery, but I need some clearer direction. I would like to have thumbnails on the same page as a larger image, and then be able to click on the larger image to produce a lightbox/thickbox/slimbox display of the full-sized version of the same image. If someone would be generous enough to compile the various steps for this in one location, I would be extremely grateful. A working example would be killer. I also think it would benefit many other noobs to see this process laid out step by step. I have seen requests for similar functions in the forums for several other gallery scripts. If we can get this to work with MaxiGallery, and make it relatively easy to understand how to set it up, I think there might be a lot of people interested in using it. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the response, doze. I did read that thread, along with many others. That’s my point. I get lost in the conversation. Instead of a clear systematic description of the steps needed to accomplish the task, it’s more like overhearing a dialogue between others that I only partially understand. It’s piecemeal and fragmented. I’m sure your responses to arielmango were exactly to the point and made perfect sense, but to a noob like me it’s challenging to try to figure out how to put all the pieces together. A clearer "how-to" that starts with the first step and works through to the end would be very helpful.

I realize that in the Open Source world no one really has time to create comprehensive instructions, and I’m not really complaining, I’m just hoping that someone will be generous enough to help me understand how to do this. And I get the sense that some clearly written ordered instructions for how to accomplish the thumbnails+pic+lightbox combination would benefit a lot of people.

I’m sure that if you really put your mind to it, you will be able to implement it with those infos.. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to write up step by step tutorial for it.. It would be good if the users of MaxiGallery would help out and write wiki articles on the various setups that they have done with it, but don’t see that happening. I have started to ask for it lately in threads that I have answered to, but got little help..

To me it feels that sometime people are trying to implement too complex things that are really out of their experience zone. Most of these people seem to be quite lazy too and just come to the forums asking how to impement this and that feature, expecting that I’ll do all the work for them so that they can just copy paste it in. Usually it’s not really that hard to get things working the way you like, but you just have to spend some time and study how things work and how to implement what you want. But too many times I have just gave up and written the code on how to implement what the user has wanted. I would expect that the least that these users could do, is to write an step by step article on how it finally got done to help others, so I wouldn’t get the same questions all the time.. I wrote that "read before posting" thread to try and help with these issues. I went through most of the posts in these MaxiGallery sub-forums and linked the most important FAQs, info, bug and patch threads into that one post, so in future I’m going to just link to those and won’t be writing steps to each question separately that has been already answered..

I’m currently implementing a new component for Revolution and I have to get the time somewhere to develop it, so I can’t spend as much time on the forums to answer questions the way I have been.. at least for the time being.

I’m really sorry about this. I hope that someone else that has implemented such display style would chip in and write up a tutorial about it.

And people, don’t take this post the wrong way, you can still of course posts questions that you may have, no matter how big or small they are.. I will still help out as much as possible.. just venting my feelings little bit here..

I hear you. I’ll give it another go and try to figure things out using the existing threads. If I am successful, I’ll try to post my own "how-to" either here, or on the wiki if appropriate. If anyone else already knows how to do this, and has the time to write it up, that would be greatly appreciated.
