I have set up Maxigallery on another site (to show project photos) and it works fantastic. I would now like to use it as a Corporate picture "library" where customers can browse the thumbnails, select the picture they want, then download a high resolution image so they can use the picture in their own promotions. However, when I view a gallery there seems to be no way to do this. In other words there is no "save picture as" type of thing. Any suggestions?

You can make maxigallery to save the original image (or some bigger version) by using the &max_big_size parameter. See maxigallery wiki page for more information about the parameter.
When you use that, maxigallery will save the image with "big_" prefix on the file name. Then create custom template to maxigallery and provide a link to that image with something like:
<a href="[(base_url)][+maxigallery.path_to_gal+]big_[+maxigallery.picture.filename+]" target="_blank">Download hi-res</a>
