I think I can help with a couple of those.
The dropshadow option has its effect on upload, so if you had it on when you uploaded the pics, you’ll have to re-upload them. The bullets are a function of the CSS (either yours or MaxiGallery’s). If you look at them in Firebug, you should be able to see where the styling is coming from. You’ll want list-style-type: none; in the CSS file.
On the pics_per_row, make sure the div that holds the pics has room for all four (and clear the cache and your browser cache if you recently changed the value).
1. The dropshadow is generated on upload like BobRay said, so you need to re-upload the images if you change that parameter.
2. Probably a css collision with your site css and maxigallery css
3. Same as above. I suggest that you comment out your site css and start bringing it back one block at a time to see where it breaks.
4. Probably a javascript collision. Lightbox uses prototype + scriptaculous. If you have some other js library included, for example mootools, they don’t play nice together. The slimbox uses mootools and you can implement thickbox by your self with the instructions from maxigallery wiki page if you want a jquery implementation.

I got it working by deleting the whole thing and start over from scratch and it’s finally working.

If you mean the blank modx template selection, eg. no <html> and <head> tags, it wouldn’t work.. The javascript is included automatically to the html code and modx does it by searching <head> tags from the source, so if you use the "blank" modx template, it won’t have the tags and it’ll fail.
