I get to move my dad’s small business site to MODx, and am struggling a little with re-creating and tweaking the current layout in a CSS design. If anyone would be interested in coaching me through this (and I’m willing to pay for that coaching), I’d be grateful.

          Hey sparse

          Welcome to modx!

          This should get you started

          http://www.modxhost.com/assets/templates/qualitywood/index.htm

You can download all the files here

          http://www.modxhost.com/assets/templates/qualitywood/qualitywood.zip

I included a psd in the zip so you can see how the design gets sliced. All you need to do now is learn how to setup the left navigation, style the right column content - the footer, and the header elements you might want to change to text also. Once you’ve got that figured, then you can modX’ify it smiley

If this has been of help to you, and you want to pay somthing - you use this link to make a donation to modxcms smiley

          http://modxcms.com/donate.html

Now, do us all proud - I left all the ’css-easy-bits’ for you to finish off, can’t wait to see it powered by MODx!

          - Starbuck

No, Sparse, we haven’t finished with you yet !

Here’s a book that I found really useful, taking one through all the steps necessary to convert a table-based site (quite similar to yours in fact) to one that is fully standards compliant and accessible. All very hands-on with just a bit of hand-holding. Highly recommended.

Yeah... buddy. that template ought to do the trick.
I just came off the road of wysiwyg, I’ve hacked through a couple of CSS site, I get a nice standards framework, then start tossing in the wysiwyg slop to keep up with production, so I’m maybe halfway there.

Never heard of that wrox book, wondering if the author is a modX guy.
I just got a book, CSS Mastery, I think it was a good investment. you can find details on it at FriendsOfEd.com smiley

Any more questions on the details I’d be glad to help you sort them out too.
Were you thinking of changing the layout graphics, looks like it was/is a great looking site, I sorta like it.
              Real crisp-clean color pallette.
