Because I wanted to setup my Windows XP system to use the modx CMS locally I have installed apache 2.0.55 for win32,mysql 5.0.19-nt and finally php 5.1.2 which is configured to be used as an apache module and works.

Afterwards I placed a copy of MODx version 0.9.1 in a subfolder named modx inside the apache2\htdocs directory. When I use my browser to access http://localhost/modx/ the MODx2 installation appears (after clicking through the splash and licence info).

The issue I am having is with connecting to the database on my localhost. I tell modx to login as root with the correct password (the one I entered in the MySQL setup). When I click on ‘’Test Connection” it says “Testing connection...” and nothing else happenes. I tried both creating a db manually for modx to use and letting modx create one but neither of them worked.

If anyone has some ideas on how to resolve this please reply.

    thanks in advance,
    Johan van den Broek.

What happens if you continue on, ignoring the Test Connection... thing? Does it install or do you get a specific error message?

I get a screen that is completely empty except for the modx logo in its upper frame and the left frame with the whats new button, the relevant middle frame is totally blank. Unfortunately no error message gets printed.

Hmmm, new one on me. If you want to post your phpinfo results here, feel free to and someone might be able to diagnose the issue, but I have no problem using with XAMPP 1.5.1 (or XAMPPLite), which has almost the same specifications. I’ll try and find a 5.1.2/5.0.19 environment soon to see if I can duplicate anything there, but most likely there is a configuration in your PHP that may be non-standard or needs to be modified slightly to get MODx running.

There are some known issues/resolutions with some of the more recent PHP/MySQL versions that might also be the culprit; I suggest searching for those in the forums and/or bug tracker for more information as well.

I got it working by uninstalling my apache/php and mysql installations and installing WAMP which is an open source package including those three services but comes with a configuration which runs out of the box. (if anyone is interested, it is located at: http://www.en.wampserver.com/)

My ModX installation now successfully logged into the mysql service and created a database for me smiley

I must have missed something with setting up the MySQL environment when i did it all manually (admittedly for the first time). Anyhow there is no reason for me to figure out what exactly it was since i now have my testing environment set up smiley

I’m having the exact same problem, except I’m using a Linux Ubuntu machine so using WAMP is not an option. Any ideas would be more than welcome... huh
Thanks for MODx - I love it!
