Extracting title and descripition from XMP embedded in JPEG

Has anyone used information from the XMP fields embedded in a jpeg image to populate MaxiGallery’s Title and Description fields?

I create comments for each publishable photo and then embed that comment, along with other information, in an XML document in the jpeg. I would prefer to have Maxigallery extract that information during the upload or resync process rather than having to re-enter it. Looking at the MaxiGallery’s code I can see where to add a hook but I do not want to re-invent the wheel if somebody else has done it.

XMP is not the same as EXIF, right? I’m not aware of any existing modx-snippet. You might try to use this PEAR extension though: http://pear.php.net/package/Image_JpegXmpReader

Just change it to show only those fields you need.

Thanks for the replies. I had found the second script and I think that is the way I will have to go because my hosting service does not currently support PHP5 .

If there are sufficient replies to this topic that show interest in being able to use XMP with MaxiGallery I will try and implement both a PHP4 and PHP5 solution.
