To help you, we’ll need more infos

What step did you take ?
What errors do you get, except from an error 500 ?

Anyway, from what you’re saying, I would guess a .htaccess problem... did you make a new install before restoring the DB ? Or did you upload the local copy to your server ? In which case, you’d have to edit .htaccess and config.inc.php according to your server settings...

on the server is a new install with only a couple of items in it, its files are already set up
then what I was trying to do is upload the localhost site databbase to the server online

I didn’t touch the new install htaccess, thought it was only if we were using friendly url ? I haven’t used that as of yet

the only thing i Uploaded or attempted was to import the database items to the server database using phpmyadmin
no specific error message other than internal error

is changing the config necessary since i’d be using the one already on the new install on the server

would it have anything to do with the version of phpmyadmin being different for localhost and server
and also localhost is using php5 where the server is using php4 not sure if that would effect database importing

then forget about it, you’re right, only for clean urls

OK. You mean the error occurs when you import the via phpMyAdmin ?
The error message is in phpMyAdmin ? If there are none, you shouldn’t have problems and certainly not an error 500...

No it’s not needed, it’s been configured at install

It would not, so it’s not that.

Are you sure importing is OK, you have no SQL errors or something ?
If importing is OK was it the exact error message you get and "where" ?

strange, using MAMP for local-test i can import easily over existing database info no problem using export import sql

but on the server nothing but an internal error messsage

does the url’s have to be changed before importing to server database or can they be changed later in manager

I managed to get some actual errors messages using cococamysql instead of phpmyadmin

there are several some relating to newly added mods, how does modx handle this when a localhost mod has tables but the server does not since the mod was not installed on it

rather then past all the errors here i’ll just run through some ittems

                modx_active_users’ doesn’t exist
                modx_document_groups’ doesn’t exist
                modx_event_log’ doesn’t exist
                modx_log_access’ doesn’t exist
                modx_log_hosts’ doesn’t exist
                modx_log_operating_systems’ doesn’t exist
                modx_log_referers’ doesn’t exist
                modx_log_totals’ doesn’t exist
                modx_log_user_agents’ doesn’t exist
                modx_log_visitors’ doesn’t exist
                modx_manager_log’ doesn’t exist
                modx_manager_users’ doesn’t exist
                modx_polls’ doesn’t exist
                modx_site_content’ doesn’t exist
                modx_site_htmlsnippets’ doesn’t exist

it says they don’t exist but the tables do

are we suppose to import structure too or only content,

looks like I may have to do sql for one set of tables at a time , that will be a real pain

this is confusing and frustrating, there has to be a better way

If you export something and try to import it into a non-matching DB, you’ll have serious problems.

when you say non-matching what would be some of the things to look out for ?

                    prefix_ is same

I was under the impression from earlier posts that we could literally copy the entire modx dB on a localhost and plop it inside the server database where it overwrites any existing items or at least the content would be overwritten. With the idea of setting your site offline then copying it to the live server. Woudl be a good thing if this were possible

You’d have to make sure the export contained the create table statements and load it into an empty db.
