I found that this is more of an article style setup where each page would be a MODx document. This way you can have the next/prev buttons and the pull down jump navigation. You may be able to do this with MG but I think that it would be easier to manage in a document structure.
Yes, the same could be done with maxigallery, (eg. each picture is one "page"). You’d have to do multiple custom templates. A document based gallery could be better, like dev_cw said. You could for example use image TV with phpThumb to achieve easy uploading and image resizing.
