portrait photo's made with new camera will upload as landscape

I got a load of images that I needed to upload for a client, I lookt at the photo’s in preview(mac) and in photoshop and some where landscape and some where portrait.

so all ok i started upload and all images where landscape, also the ones that looked portrait in photoshop. only when i saved the image in photoshop the image was portrait
I think that new camera’s have extra information on hoe the camera position was when creating the image. photoshop understands that but maxigallery does not look at this information and sees the image as landscape.

I have no idea if its possible for maxigallery to look in the extra info in the file and see how the photo was taken.

I don’t really see the problem here. Do you really want to upload pics straight from the camera? i.e. uploading huge 3000 x 2000px beasts?
Personally, I never upload anything unless I processed it first with Photoshop, Picasa or IrfanView (apart from resizing, it’s mostly sharpening and color-corrections)

phpThumb can rotate pictures according to exif data, so if maxigallery image processing class would be replaced with that, this would be resolved. Unfortunately I’m not going to develop maxigally any further than fixing bugs and doing small changes. I’ll save the phpThumb to a future gallery resource for modx 0.9.7 or 1.0..

If someone else want to take a stab with it, I’m willing to help and guide the process through.. It should be pretty straight forward thing to do if MaxiGallery logic would not be changed and sia parameter is used with phpThumb to save the processed image to a file like MaxiGallery does currently..

phpThumb uses php exif command though.. afaik..

EDIT: Now that I think of it, it might be that I’ll change to phpThumb for the next version of MaxiGallery.. but I’ll do it like described in this post so it’s pretty fast to do.. I was envisioning a bigger change before, but this could be a good stepping stone.. But I don’t promise anything.. I’ll try to find the time to hack the next version together some times in near future.
