Shadowbox instead of default other lightboxes?

Is it possible, and if so - how, to install & utilize Shadowbox instead of the other default lightboxes with maxigallery???

it would be great to have this with maxigallery so the gallery can have not just images but videos, pdf’s, & weblinks etc too.

Sure, just insert it like you would any other script. If you want to use it on every page, call it from the template. If only on a few pages, put it in a TV.

Maxigallery just does some of the extra work for you and is highly configurable. I have even called the Maxigallery scripts directly rather than use the snippet.

guess i should’ve mentioned - this is only my 2nd modx installation; so i’m still a noob.
so i know what you said makes total sense - just not to me (yet).
if it’s not too much to ask, can you give me a step-by-step?

i’ve downloaded the shadowbox files to my computer. now i’m assuming i need to upload them to ~/assets/snippets/maxigallery/... along side where i see the other lightbox folders - right?

but then what? i’m assuming i would need to change some sort of code somewhere within the maxigallery files so that it would recognize the new shadowbox way of doing things; but i’m clueless on that.

and then i’m assuming i simply change my code in modx -> Resources -> Manage Resources -> Templates -> (mytemplate)...
FROMTO(or something like that)

Not at all.

Forget about Maxigallery for now.

Copy the needed files to your assets folder somewhere. Maybe the js folder, just to keep things simple.

Now paste the following lines into your template, if you want to use this on every page (assuming you are using relative paths):

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="assets/js/shadowbox.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="assets/js/shadowbox.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
window.onload = Shadowbox.init;
</script>

Now add whatever code you need to each page to invoke Shadowbox.

This is just a quick way to add Shadowbox to your website.

OH, i see where you’re going with this (i think).

the only thing is, i (think i) need to use MaxiGallery because this isn’t for me to use - it’s for a client; and the client can’t go messing around with code at all. so i thought i’d use maxigallery for them to easily manage they media gallery. i was just needing to find a way for them to be able to include videos & links as well as just images to their gallery. and shadowbox seems to be a nice way to do that.

so is that not doable? to have the client use maxigallery to upload all their media (images, videos, pdfs, links) and manage it via maxigallery and have maxigallery utilize shadowbox as the display method?

if not, then i’ll need to think of a different way to do this where it will be easy for the client.

MaxiGallery can only handle images.

In that case I would probably use Maxigallery for the images and use something else for other stuff. Depends on how often you needed to add videos, etc.

i’ll look in to other solutions for the other media and just use this for the images.
