I’m trying to get a text right beneath my gallery which says "4 Pictures in Gallery" and of course, "4" should be the number of the total pics in the gallery.
Okey, I think the placeholder [+maxigallery.total_pics_count+] would do the job, but how to get this working when I have the text saved in a chunk? Now, the output is empty.

That placeholder is only available in pictureTpl, you can use [+maxigallery.picscount+] in galleryOuterTpl.
