    I recently installed Modx. I have the default template and site pages. When I go to the "Sign Up" page to register for a new account the Code field is missing (it is obscured by missing graphic text). Screen shot attached.

    Any ideas.

      The Captcha requires two things to be compiled with your server’s PHP installation:

      * GD 1.8+ (for jpeg support)
      * FreeType

      I believe, but may be mistaken, that many hosts which use WHM/CPanel, do not generally compile FreeType in their environments, but I suggest double-checking to see if FreeType is being used by PHP on your server.

        Ok. Thanks. I am checking with my host.

        Is there a way to disable Captcha while I check? I did a search in forums and checked the documentation with no luck. Kindly point me in the right direction.

          It’s an option on one of the Configuration page tabs.

              I had the same problem with current latest build (modx-0.9.2.1), i had to change two files to make it work :

              • manager/includes/config.inc.php : line 10 - remove backquotes in $dbase variable
              • manager/includes/veriword.php : function pick_word() (line 72) :

                add some globals : global $dbase,$table_prefix,$database_server,$database_user,$database_password; // new line on line 73

                Change sql query (line 81) to be : $sql = "SELECT * FROM ".$table_prefix."system_settings WHERE setting_name=’captcha_words’";

                Indeed that fixed the problem. So this is a bug that should definitely be reported. THANKS for working out the fix!

                  Thanks very much for the contributed solution...I’ll take a look at this in a moment and release an official patch to solve this. BTW, removing the backticks from the $dbase value in the config file is not advisable; it is better to do...

                  <?php
                  str_replace('`', '', $dbase);
                  ?>

                  ...wherever you need to use the value without them. Anyone with characters other than alphanumeric ones might experience issues without the backticks, potentially throughout the application.

                    I’m getting this error on my new .92 installation. Did this not make it into the release?

                      Well, it mistakenly made it into the release actually. tongue But I should be able to spend some time with any bugs identified since the release this weekend; maybe one more patch release out before 0.9.5.

                      The fix provided below should also address your subsequent post.
