Images broken / users to add images

Hi
I am having a really hard time with maxi gallery

I finally got the manage pictures button to come up and images to upload... but now all the images come out broken
I can see them in the folder, I have the images and the thumbnails but on the page I get the dreaded RED X

What am I doing wrong?

And also, on a completely different note...
Is there any documentation anywhere that explains how to set this up so that a registered user can add pictures to an album specified by me?

Your server is generating 403 Errors. Make sure that the permissions on the assets/galleries folder is set to 777 or on a suExec server to 755.
