Paging Galleries

I don’t know what the correct terminology for it is, but I have some galleries that are quite large and would like to limit how long the page scrolls down.

Can the gallery be made to display 30 thumbs and at the bottom display page numbers to continue on if there are more than 30 images in a gallery?

If so, how would a newbe go about doing so?
