Launch a (slimbox embedded) gallery from another page

UPDATE: I finally got it working the way I wanted! Thank you to all those who helped me do this. Doze, you’ve been great this whole time. Dutchy, thanks for the chat! Here’s what I did.

On the main portfolio page I have a link to each of the four portfolios.

On each of the portfolio pages I have a list, created by Wayfinder, of all the documents in that area’s container.

-Project 3
-Project 4
-Project 5

-Project 3
-Project 4
-Project 5
And so on.....

This way the client can create the documents and the list will populate automatically. I used some AJAX (tabbed content script from Dynamic Drive) to call the pages into a specific <div>. But, what was interesting is that I had to create a new template for the pages I was calling (the project pages). It had to have all the necessary scripts, css, and so forth, but in between the body tags I only put the information I wanted to show on the main portfolio page and none of the other structural elements. But, it works! Thanks again to a wonderful ModX forum!

Well, everything’s working...Almost! Everytime I upload pictures I get a parse error:

Like before, the images are uploading, but it’s still giving that error. So, if I navigate back to the original site page, then go to the portfolio page, all the images are there. Why is it throwing that error if it’s working? Oh, also, the galleries are doubled up. There are two managers showing identical galleries.

I have fixed some bugs in SVN code that possibly fixes that error.. But there is one change in SVN also that is not fully working yet, so if you want to try the latest code, you need to do some modifying..

But. I think that it would be better if you set up another MODx installation and try with simpler things first with MaxiGallery to see how the different parameters work before trying to jam it all together at once..

MaxiGallery basically works like this:

Pictures that are uploaded are bound to that document ID where the call is running. Eg. there will be a folder /assets/galleries/<document id>/ where the pictures are stored. If you have one document which have multiple MaxiGallery calls, they all manage the same pictures. Then with &view_gallery, &gal_query_ids, &manage_gallery etc. parameters you can handle a gallery from another document.

If you list gallery documents (eg. documents with maxigallery call without previously mentioned parameters) with ditto or wayfinder or something, you need to use those parameters to make the snippet collect pictures from that specific gallery. I don’t know what more I can say and I really don’t have time to set it up for you.. so you need to do one step at a time to learn the system preferably with another MODx installation and then replicate that in your development environment.
