Ok, I finally got it to work in both IE 6 and FF 1.5! This mod enables you to sort the items in the menu tree by dragging them by their handles. The documents involved will get new menu ids based on their new order. It is partly based on Scriptaculous, a free javascript library.

    Installation:
    1. Make a backup of "manager/frames/3.php" by renaming it so something else.
    2. Download "DragSortTree.zip" and extract the 3.php-file and the scripaculous-folder to "manager/frames".
    3. Enjoy!

Please have a test and leave a comment. I’m really looking forward to read other peoples thoughts about this.
    • But does it let you change the document’s parent by dragging and dropping it under a different folder? It sounds like it just changes the menu index number.

We’ll see. I posted the question if it rewrites parent IDs or just menuindex. Niffty gadget.

We have a great Menuindex module, but integrating this functionality in the core would be awsome: much, much more intuitive and easy-to-use.
And considering that this mod uses scriptaculous, like MODx.... porting it is a must wink
