      in xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf

      search for:
      #LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so

      replace with:
      LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so

Watch for #, it prevents Apache to load mod_rewrite module

      regards,

      zi

@xyzvisual : there is a typo in your title "frindly" instead of "friendly"...

Zi is right, but xyzvisual is too : I couldn’t make Friendly URLs work with XAMPP 1.5.1, while it had worked OK till 1.5.0pl1... this is strange and I don’t get it : my settings are stricly the same ! So I stick with XAMPP 1.4.16 until I understand this. You can also use WAMP Server 1.6.1 : works fine.

I really don’t get this XAMPP 1.5.1 problem : something changed in Apache 2.2.0 huh

Ok, found the issue in XAMPP 1.5.1. The Apache installation has the AllowOverride setting for the document root Directory (../xampp/htdocs/ generally) setting set to None now. So just change it to be:

          AllowOverride All

and the .htaccess files inside your xampp/htdocs/ folders will work, enabling friendly URLs in XAMPP 1.5.1.

There’s some other potential issues that are described here for enabling the same in drupal: http://drupal.org/node/43545

            Thanks Jason !!!

But why oh why would they do that huh
It should at least be in the changelog, shouldn’t it ?

Anyway, thanks ! I mainly use XAMPP so now I am happy ! Plus the updated MySQL solves problem of character encoding when moving sites from test to production server smiley

(BTW, when you dropped by on IM, was already off to sleep early... trying to recuperate for once... but here is what happen when I go to sleep early : I wake up in the middle of the night (it’s 3:25am here, lol...)
