Document Editing Question

Is this correct Modx document editing does not automatically insert things llike carriage returns, line breaks, etc

do we have to do all the formating via html for every document ? say it isn’t so lol

You can use FCKEditor or other to help you for document formating.
I use FCK and I have no problem with cariage return or paragraph.

when I edit a document, I see no editor tool bar even though it is enabled, is this because i’m using Safari Browser ? Never had trouble before using edtor tools in Safari

RTEs do not work in Safari.

I think, as far as I know, FCK does not work in safari, and that’s why you’re not getting anything. The one that you use in this forum is not a RichTextEditor (RTE), but it’s just the way how the forum parse the input and put automatic line break on every carriage return.

So far we have several options for you to use.
You can use plain HTML, markdown (like html, but a lot simpler), and RTE. It seems to me that the one that you want is something like BBCode parser (the one that usually being use in forum application, instead of content management system), is that correct? Or you can use RTE, but try using firefox, instead of safari on your mac
