    Hi all,

I’ve been hanging around the MODx forums for some time, kicking tires and waiting for the SMF Module to become a reality. And today it did! Thanks everyone who made it possible.

I happily downloaded the SMF software from Simple Machines, installed it and got it up running. Then I downloaded and installed the MODx SMF Module and followed all the instructions in the attached Word file. And everything looked just fine...

But when I tried to run the Module from my MODx Manager, I kept getting the error message "Unable to load SMF setting. Please make sure that the SMF Path was entered correctly". And I’m sure it’s correct! I even copied the path from my browser after launching SMF (excluding index.php), just to make sure there was no typing-errors!

Can anyone tell me where I go wrong here...? huh

I’ve tried both an absolute and a relative path to no avail. I can’t understand why it doesn’t accept any of these. I vaguely recall I didn’t get it exactly right the first time, and after that the path variable seem to have closed. I’m no longer able to enter a new value to the variable. Can this be a bug, or am I just plain stupid here? undecided

It’s the server path and an absolute one at that. The browser URL does not necessarily equal the filesystem path. For example, on a Plesk box it’d be along the lines of:

          /home/httpd/vhosts/somewebsite.com/httpdocs/forums

Problem solved. I entered the absolute server path and it was accepted without any protests. smiley

Maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t think it was too clear in the documentation what path should be used. And besides, for less experienced users like me it isn’t always easy to figure out what the absolute server path to a certain folder is. As it happened I copied the root path from System Configuration/Miscellaneous Settings/File Manager Path and took it from there. Perhaps a small adjustment in the documentation on this point could do some good?

            Thanks anyway, Ryan!

We will adjust the documentation for sure!

              Thanks for heads up. smiley

I found the solution in another post regarding the Server Settings in the forum itself to give me the path:
                /home/accountname/public_html/forums

All is good. Sorry if I caused any angst or irritation with this. Still, it would be good to have it in the documentation to use the SMF Admin Server Settings link to get the info needed.

                ---------------------------------------------------------------
It would be good if this were included in the documentation and highlight what the base URL should be. I’m having zero luck with this.

I know what the absolute path for the forums should be, and on my linux server, that is:
                public_html

I’ve tried "public_html/" "/public_html" "/public_html/" "public_html" and its variation for the forum path. Nothing works. I can’t get past the "Unable to load SMF settings. Please make sure the SMF path " was entered correctly."

By the "SMF path" I assume that’s the same as the "Forum base path" in the Configuration tab in the module.

I’m a pretty good rat but this one has me stumped as far as the path goes. I can’t go further "back" into the root.

Could this be an htaccess problem? Mine are set to SEF URLS. I turned it off but no results there either.
