Since the examples of creating custom config file for searching your own tables does not exists anymore (see http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,27316.0.html"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">AjaxSearch 1.8.0 - with your own tables)
could anyone share the wisdom on how to do it?

Yes, it’s doable. But as explained on this page, it’s not easy (and takes time) to implement and needs to analyse your request (tables, keys, joins, ...).
If you are interested, send me an email with the requested infos.

The ajaxSearch 1.8.x are deprecated versions. But the search in custom tables, is always possible with the latest 1.9.x releases.
On this page, you could find an example of an ajaxSearch customization which mixt a filtering search form with custom tables.

You can download version 1.8.0 from the repository. This version has examples of configs.

        Or try http://www.sphinxsearch.com/ , http://www.sphider.eu/

Not sure that these old config files are still compatibles with the release 1.9.x. Some changes and fixes have been made since july 2008 !

            Many thanks, Corioco and Elastic!

sounds like an indexing engine could be a great addition to MODX...
