Trying to get Dreamweaver to work with Modx as well but haven’t been successful
NotePad++ and hand written code! This is where you get the real power!
sorry... I don’t believe in HTML editors anymore :p

I use SubEthaEdit tied in to the Cyberduck ftp client. Double-click in Cyberduck, it opens in SubEthaEdit, edit, save, and it’s automatically uploaded via Cyberduck. I also tend to copy/paste from the Manager forms for templates and snippets etc. to SubEthaEdit and back again just for the syntax coloring, and its neat feature of highlighting opening and closing block tags when passing the cursor over one of them, and even beeping at me if I close more tags than I have opened.
I’ve even used its collaboration feature a few times, it’s really nice.

well, hand written code is for geekazoids not for the average users, also hand coding will eventually be a thing of the past, I agree that many if not all of wysiwyg editors are not 100% accurate, they are evolving and will one day make their mark then the extinct geekazoids will be replaced with a more lazier species of nerd he he
It’s the first time someone tell me i’m a geek
Anyway... I don’t believe in WYSIWYG editors because even if they are getting better and better, they will never give the flexibility you get with handwritten code. it’s sure that some lazy and average users qill get what they want, but I don’t think you can call yourself a webdesigner if you don’t know how to write HTML on your own... it would be like saying you’re a musician while using a keyboard with automatic riffs played with a single key but not knowing how to read the musical notation.

I suppose if a primative cave man were alive today he might say, one can’t call themselves a human if they can’t make fire using a rock and a stick or hunt with arrows for their food. Evolution is a pickle then you change or die whichever comes first. Someday all this elementary hand coding will be laughed at and modern highly evolved methods will be used instead. Its funny watching engineers who can’t adapt to change die with the herd for refusing to use an easier method. Being smarter is meaning more these days about making things easier, look how guns have made it more easier to kill somone you don’t like he he

BBEdit is about as far from a WYSIWYG editor as anything that I can think of. Same for TextMate (my current editor of choice). They’re both b*lls to the wall plaintext editors that pretty much define what that approach is all about, including killer grep, shell script execution and svn/cvs integration, plus configuration for most scripting, programming and markup languages that you’re going to care about.

Could you explain how you use textmate with modx please? I’m new to modx, not new to textmate. I’ve used modx to build a site for another studio once, and managed to stumble through it on one project with their help. I’m using it now to do my own project (it’s the best cms I’ve found). My first major complaint is that it seems to use modx, I have to leave textmate behind. It doesn’t seem to make sense to use textmate when you edit the "template" in a safari window.
It’d be much nicer if I could just have a page in the site framework that’s my template, and when I saved that, it would update the site. Same with chunks. Am I just using modx wrong? I’ve been through some of the documentation, what I found seemed outdated and/or didn’t really answer my questions. Perhaps I just need to reread it.
Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.
