    I require a vertical drop-down menu (also known as a fly-out menu), but I need to change the dropmenu, is there a readymade solution, that includes any necessary changes to the dropmenu function?

    It must act like this, and be cross-browser;

    Home
    News -> Item 1
    -> Item 2
    -> ...etc
    Contact
    ...etc

    I’ve got some static ones that kinda work, but either they won’t work in IE or won’t work in FF or require me to significantly change the dropmenu function.

    Is there a ready-made solution that I can use from the get-go with minimal, generic css?

    Thanks.

      Nothing currently pre-made for you, but you can use the techniques at http://positioniseverything.net/css-flyout.html to accomplish this using anyone of the various list menu snippets available. I’ve personally accomplished flyouts and traditional dropdowns using both ListMenuX and DropMenu. Generating the list with these snippets is generally trivial, unless you have some very specific CSS requirements that may not fit the way these are generating the lists; it’s the CSS, and especially working around IE, that can be tricky to work out.

        Thank you for your reply. I’ve looked at the css flyout and another one on css play... Do you have any practical case-studies (live websites) of working vertical drop-down menus via modx? I’m almost there but I seem to be missing something and if you’ve got a live case-study that I can use as a framework then I could really solve this problem for my specific problem.

        Thank you.

          One menu, four styles, and a slightly tweaked DropMenu driven output: http://landplan.net ... not for inexperienced CSS devs, though.

          Also, look at the menus on the http://modxcms.com, http://www.prescottrealtygroup.com, http://marquisliving.com and so on.

            Thank you very much for your help, looking around and looking at how they did theirs I finally got my vertical fly out menus to work in IE and FF, and I’m really happy.

            I used the following website as a framework, notice how it doesn’t use a "class=topnav" in the ul/li and you have to comment out the topnav declarations in the dropmenu and it more or less works out of the box (so long as you keep the menu stylesheet menu).
