I’m designing a site in MODx and am loving the ajaxsearch plugin, especially the live search.
However I would like to extend this plugin to allow live filtering as well. I have a list of products that are within a container in the backend and are displayed using ditto. Each item is tagged with multiple tags. I would like to have a page which would display all products. This page would have checkboxes along with the ajaxsearch text box. When the checkboxes are ticked the list of products would instantly filter. There will be several pages of this type of search - one for products, news stories, office locations, etc.
I have found something similar:
http://unspace.ca/livefilter (it’s broken when selecting more than two options but hopefully you get the idea) and but instead of having "show results", the products would be listed directly under the filter buttons and change in real time according to what was ticked and also what characters are written into the textbox.

I understand this would be CPU/data heavy, but there is only 70 or so products with a possibility of up to 4 tags each, and it would be a funky way of sorting products by their characteristics.
Looking at
http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/AjaxSearch I see there is a way to have a custom PHP file to config. Do I need to concentrate my efforts on a custom config? If anyone can put me on the right path or knows of a guide/tutorial I would appreciate it! I’m just starting out with MODx after trialling Drupal, Silverstripe and a couple of others and can see the power of the CMS, if this is achievable then modx has everything I need to proceed.
