    Hi,

    Is there a very easy way to get SMF to appear as part of the ModX look & feel (from front-end aesthetic stand-point)?

      It’s relatively straightforward with the 1.1RC2 release but very time consuming. It’s what we did here in fact. smiley

        Hmmm. I don’t suppose you guys could put together some type of rough step-by-step guide for a beginner?

        I’m basically using the standard default ModX template (the one that begins with "Welcome to the MODx Content Management System"). I’d just like to add a category link that takes you to the SMF forum which should display within the Modx template.

        In other words, I don’t have any fancy user integration or anything like that. I intend to use the SMF user registration system and perhaps add Photopost later on.

          We have separate MODx and SMF installation, and obviously skinned both separately, so here is a quick step-by-step:

          1) Create MODx Template
          2) Complete MODx based site, add/update CSS tweaks and blah blah.
          3) Port your MODx based theme to your SMF, you need to alter SMF’s CSS and some template files here and there.
          4) You are done

          Isn’t it so simple ? wink

          regards,

              Would you recommend the same for phpList ?

              I thought there might be an easier way of integrating the phpList subscribe and unsubscribe pages into modX but the best I’ve come up with to date is skinning those pages the same as the modX layout, which isn’t a problem except snippets and chunks? can’t be included so the navigation needs to be static - unless I’m missing something, I’m a newbie perhaps I have, although it would also solve the Newsletter snippet issues that until completely evolved doesn’t appear to offer the same degree of usability and functionality that phpList does, most newsletter client’s have lists via xls - phpList imports those lists whereas the snippet from what I can gather would hang on entering the addresses manually.

                @bugsmi0

                Yep its a bit time-consuming task wink

                @Starbuck

                Haven’t used phpList myself, but I hope it will be easy, you just need to learn where to put your design bits to form a matching theme.

                regards,

                  Matching the theme wasn’t a problem, if menu items are added dynamically then at phplist they need to be redone manually - it seems a little off-balance ... but I guess if that’s how it is, then that’s how it has to be smiley

                    I just used an Iframe for PHPlist. It’s not hard to integrate that way and looks pretty seamless.

                    It’s the backend of SMF/Modx/PHPlist that I’d really like to integrate better, but not easy, with the main difficulty being coordinating user/subscription groups. I have this dream of some key open source project leaders getting together and hammering out a specification that would simplify integration. Perhaps impossible, but I wonder if there might be a foundation out there that could be tapped to fund something like that. Oh well, maybe in a parallel universe.

                      jlarson, that’s such an incredible idea . . . I think if a website was built explaining it, and the website was promoted properly it might just end up like the snowball turned into an avalanche . . . and I for one would be willing to donate a bit of time to that effort. Feel free to contact me.
