Logging search terms

Forgive me if this is covered somewhere - please point me in the right direction.

I wonder if it is possible to log search terms entered by users on our site?

We have AjaxSearch working well and are about to go live. It would clearly be useful to keep an eye on what users are searching for in order to help us manage our home page and navigation in general.

The only AS logging I can find is for short term debugging purposes not creating a permanent record.

You are right. AS doesn’t provide a log for search terms used by the end-users.

A nearest subject has been discussed with this post and could interest you.
But I understand, that, in your case, you would like know the search terms used, in order to improve, the home page and the naviguation of your site. Which is a bit different that understand which terms give unsucessfull results.

Thanks for replying - and pointing me to the other post.

That conversation made me realise that it would be great to log both the user-entered search term plus a flag for whether the search failed or not. I don’t need much, just a simple text file that I can download to manually manipulate.

Not being a coder, I have no idea how simple this is to set up. Any clues?
