AjaxSearch 1.8.0 - with your own tables

A new post to collect questions and remarks about how-to use AS 1.8.0 with your own custom tables.

A first example "with your own tables" presents how to use AS with a custom product catalog. All the explanations and files used are on the demo site.

A second example with some joined tables (stocks and providers) is coming soon.

Search into the products catalog (PDA) is a bit limited. Find in which shop a product is available and get informations about the provider, is more interesting ...

"With your own tables - 2" demo, explain step by step throught an example, how to use AjaxSearch with several Non-MODx custom tables (have a look to the schema in the middle of explanations).

Try for instance "phone" or "HTC" as search term.

so can this version search a database?

I think Coroico is on vacation. According to the docs it will work with your own tables. Looks like you can tie the tables in with modx documents as well. It does look a bit complicated to set up but seems to allow a lot of configuration.

It will in fact search in custom tables. See his support site for examples until he returns in September. Good luck!

markg, yeah, it looks a bit overwhelming. However, all the information is documented very well. I am curious to try this out and will give it a go during some free time, just don’t know when that will be. Keep us informed on your progress, this is a cool new feature.

OK, progress so far.

I’ve managed to get Search within your own tables option 2 working to a point.

That is, I’m not getting any database errors and the page almost, sort of looks like it should when I load it. See screenshot.

But at this stage it doesn’t actually do anything.

I suspect it either can’t find the database or the required information in it.

I followed Coroico’s instructions slavishly, but I need some pointers as to what to do next.

While you were away I managed to get only so far with the search within your own tables example.

for how far I got. I think it’s a miracle I got this far actually.

Anyway, I was wondering if you could help me get this working.

I figure if I can get your example working then I’lll be able to apply that to my own actual tables.
