I am a complete duh when it comes to feed burner. How do I use the Feedburner feed button on the forums? It doesnt look or act like any RSS thingy I have seen. It wont just plug into my aggregator, the feedburner site looks like an rss feed handler/publisher not an aggregator... am I missing something ?

    *feels dumb*

Feedburner is just a proxy for publishing your feeds. You signup at feedburner, register your feeds, and your feed is then available through a feedburner URL, and has all the the optional features Feedburner adds, like formatted RSS feed rather than raw XML when visited by browser, circulation stats, free email notification services when your feed is updated, etc. To be most effective with it, you need to also redirect all non-Feedburner requests to your feed to the Feedburner URL, so that all feed requests are tracked for circulation purposes. This is easily doable with a simple rewrite_rule that let’s feedburner get your feed from your feed URL, but sends everyone else directly to feedburner.

I use it for several clients, and they have definitely enjoyed the benefits.

Wow, great info. However, I am trying to get the MODXCMS feed to show up in any aggregator. I have tried the two on the front page the one above teh forum. I have tried in sage, firefox livebook mark... sigh...

The problem you may be experiencing is what happens when someone on the forums forgets to wrap code in code tags. If they fail to do this, the RSS feed becomes invalid and some readers won’t let you add it. Simple fix, try checking the feed at feedvalidator.org and when it is valid, add it to your reader.

Would it be possible to provide the mod_rewrite code, I can never seem to get mine working:

I am trying to get my rss feed to redirect to my feedburner url.

            Thanks

You just need something like this:

              RewriteEngine On
              ...

#add these lines for redirecting visitors, but not FeedBurner agents, to your FeedBurner feed
              RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !FeedBurner
              RewriteRule ^path/to/your/feed.xml$ http://feeds.feedburner.com/yourfeedburnerfeedname [R,L]
              ...

              RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
              RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
              RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

This simply redirects all requests unless they are from a FeedBurner bot (which needs to still see your feed so it can get the content of your feed to populate your Feedburner-powered version), to the FeedBurner version of the feed.

That needs to appear before the RewriteCond lines for MODx rewrite rules, but after the RewriteEngine On directive...
