Is there any way to output the navigation structure of the nav from MODX ?
I’m thinking possibly to XML. I am trying to synchronise the CMS backend to work with
    a dynamic flash menu

The way I see it is that I would structure my flash nav to pick up the navigation output.
    What are your thoughts?

That’s a great idea... this would make integration with Flash sites one step easier.

This should be very easy to do with a snippet. You should be able to convert a basic menu snippet to handle XML.

          Thanks for your feedback guys...
I like this concept because it gives MODX a whole new grasp and reach.
I’m also happy to hear that it’s not too tricky.

How would I go about converting the menu snippet to handle XML,
After it has been converted how would you output it?
Or where would I connect the flash to?

I know my flash, but my PHP is still tender.

The menu snippets mostly generate <ul> and <li> tags. It should not be difficult to change those tags to whatever xml tags you want.

You’ll need to author a snippet that produces the XML in the format you need from the list of documents in MODx. These can be retrieved in a number of ways via the MODx API. Then you can place that snippet in a new document in MODx, changing the content type to text/xml and serving it with an appropriate XML template (or perhaps no template, depending on how you author your snippet). You can easily make it configurable by passing variables from the flash to indicate a node in the document tree to start from.

Or perhaps you can use Wayfinder with XML templates to produce the XML you need, then place that in a MODx document.
