Is there anyway to display error an error message when there is a problem submitting the form? It seems to just go back to the form without any information on what happened.

What kind of form are you talking about? Using a snippet? If you’re using a snippet, call it uncached [!...!]

The error message is displayed using a placeholder. Check the eForm documentation for it.
