Do you have Captcha turned on and working for your Manager login? There are many reasons why Captcha may not work.
Along those lines, I have a "hidden" field in my eForm that must be left empty; bots are stupid enough to fill them in. A custom snippet using the eForm event model has a function that checks if the field is not empty, and the form submission fails silently. I haven’t gotten any form spam at all since I activated it on my server.
You need to make sure your PHP has the required GD libraries installed.

You need to have both GD and FreeType enabled for Captcha to work. If you look at PhpInfo(), you can see if they are.

I found that Freetype is installed but not enabled. I am enabling it and I’ll retry.

I am trying to enable captcha on my contact us form. I donot get the image just the alt code. When i try to open the veriword.php file directly in the browser, I get the following error
"The image cannot be displayed as it contains errors". Phpinfo shows that all the required GD libraries are installed
GD Support enabled
GD Version 2.0
FreeType Support enabled
FreeType Linkage with freetype
FreeType Version 2.4.2
