Image thumbnails are not displaying in FCKeditor

hi, did you ever get this resolved, ive got the same thing (on a windows server btw).

I’ve seen this before (with Etomite and now also MODx). The culprit was the host not having installed the GD library extensions. Check your PHP info and see if they’re installed - if not you’ll need to install them or get your host to do it.

I have the same problem on a windows box, have checked for the GD Libs in PHP and they are installed http://www.pcjuice.com/php_info.php, also checked the permissions etc, the paths in the settings are fine to.

I can upload images but the thumb nails are not being created, so in the FCKeditor all the image icons just have place holders if i click on the image I can edit it ok / view it on screen and also save it.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated

Can you get the GD functions to work outside of MODx/FCKeditor?

Yep thats an idea, will look on the net for some test scripts to try out in a std php page and let you all know.

Didnt take long to try,

Following two examples from http://uk.php.net/gd they both worked.

And i did another test php file which gets the source file and resizes it and saves it to a folder on the server.

Could the problem on IIS be with a particular mime type which is not recognised by IIS and is needed by FCKeditor?

Hmm...

Well I can think of two other things I’d check (which you may already have checked also)...

First is to look on your server and see if the thumbnails are being created but just not showing up in the FCKeditor resources browser.

The second is to look at the path that the broken thumbnails are trying to load from (right-click, Properties in IE). On the host where I also have this problem I just see the command to create the thumbnail in there (e.g., "http://www.myserver.com/manager/media/browser/mcpuk/connectors/php/connector.php?Command=Thumbnail&Type=images&CurrentFolder=/&FileName=garbage1.jpg&ExtraParams="). Do you see something like that or an actual image path?

Yep have checked the directory for hidden thumbnail files and cant find any.

I edited a file in FCK and could see the temp file it created in the images directory on the server fine, so in some form it’s able to write / upload / save changes. Just seems an issue with creating the thumbs. I’ve never seen the thumbnails before should they be based on the image?

The path for the icon / image is as follows again looks fine to me.

A bit of sleep does wonders.

This morning I copied the image URL into a web browser

http://www.cheapflightsguy.com/manager/media/browser/mcpuk/connectors/php/connector.php?Command=Thumbnail&Type=images&CurrentFolder=/&FileName=headimage3.jpg&ExtraParams=

And it came up with an error about magic.mime not being installed so I added the following section into my php.ini on the webserver and it works perfectly now

[mime.magic]
mime_magic.magicfile = "c:\php\magic.mime"

Anyone trying this dont forget to restart IIS after changing the PHP.INI
