Hi,
I’m new to MODX and templates and been reading docs, but missing the big point.
I really liked andreas06 and 08 and tried to build basic site with one of them, but it does not look like in the picture and would really appreciate helping hand.
I install modx with no default web site.
Created templates, chunks, snippets as per instructions, but links don’t work and I feel I did not do something.

When you say "links don’t work", how many links are you talking about? The installation without the sample site has only one page, and the menu will not create a link for the page you are currently on, unless you use the "&selfAsLink=`true` when calling the snippet.
thanks for answering
I’m probably missing the point about template and modx
- I took andreas08 as an example
- created andreas08 template and copied template.txt into my template
- created new document and used andreas08 as a template
- made my document a home page
the questions is:
do I have to create TVs
do I have to put something in document(home page) context?
can’t show my site, it is internal, but willing to attach anything
You say this Andreas08 template
http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,1759 ?
This template includes much saple content (like favorite links) in all box.
To use that box you have to replace text content with a Template variable or a chunk..
Ok sorry.
I take a fast look to Andreas08:
code is:

one was created as a response to one of those requests. This template

worth to note that this template does not use any images - and

you can see there is all sample content and only Dropmenu tag.
To use in modx will be something like this:
<body>
<div id="topwrapper">
<div id="header">

<h2>space reserved for your website slogan!</h2>
</div> <!-- end header -->
<div id="navigation">

is there a single source for documentation,like pdf?
I still thing it would be tremendows help to all non-gurus, if there would be simple zipped example. I mean with TVs, snipets, chunks, etc based on something simple, but also with most of objects.
the reason I was using andreasxx, it looked simple. Also I seen sottwell site, very nice and simple in the same time. Will try to follow her "Installing a new template", if I will find from where to download this Yaml archive.
thanks to everyone.
newbbies are pain in the neck, i guess

The PDF needs lots of cleaning up honestly. It’s not ready. many pages full of nothing but emptiness, for example.
