How do I install MODx on my server without disrupting the current site?
The current dev installation is behind a firewall and not available to the client. I want to move the site to the production server and let them start adding data while I do other work.
Right now all I need are the manager screens; I don’t need to serve pages to the public.
Thanks.
Install into a subfolder, like yoursite.com/modx/

And you can set your site status to offline in the System Configuration under Site Administration; this will allow managers to still view pages when logged in, but will prevent public access to the pages.

My personal favorite is to install it in the site root and so long as your current static site is .htm(l) extenion based the current site will work normally and modx will be "invisible"--- only accessible via index.php?id= until you turn on FURLs and delete the older index.htm(l).
