(howto; first altering, importing, editing; existing; template, layout; css)

After the Q under templates it seemed that more questions evolved compared to problems solved.

Okey. Templates should be pasted into the FCKedit.
I like to edit an existing (non MODx) template. That template have a css, which Sottwell adviced to switch "editor off" (to use quick edit instead).
    1. But, to turn something of, the file (css) must into the system. How?
    2. To use the quick edit I must get the actual template to be the "site template. Am I right? Now only default shows up. Can you take the time embarrassed

I am not sure I understand what you mean there...

Do you need some tutorial on how to transform a xhmtl/css template into a MODx template ?

You either can copy/paste the html code into MODx template and upload css files in the assets/templates folder. Or you can use a MODx document as CSS by setting the content-type of the document to text/css and template to _blank.

Personnally, I never use WYSIWYG editor to edit templates or CSS. Useless and source of error. I don’t really understand the QuickEdit part of your post (???).

      Does that help ?

      • You cannot have the template itself as a document, it has to be entered as a new template in the Templates tab of the Manage Resources window.

If you use a document for the css, it is text/css, not text/html and so is never displayed in the browser for QuickEdit to work with. It has to be edited from the manager. Set it to not use RTE, and it will use a plain textarea instead. As far as I know, it doesn’t even have to be published. It certainly should not show in menu. In any case, I have an unpublished folder called Stylesheets to keep all my css documents in.
