  • Is there a way that I can only allow certain documents to show in the doc tree when in the manager? I want to only allow a certain admin to access pages specific to them to edit.

    Thanks!

    • The tree will only show documents belonging to the document group attached to the user group the user belongs to. If these documents are children of a document you don’t want to give access to, there is a configuration to "show hidden" that will show the documents (otherwise he can’t even see the hidden document and its children), but the user still cannot open the documents he doesn’t have permissions for.

      • That works... I didn’t realise I had to add the documents to the group to hide it from the our admins. Only problem is that it’s not visible to the public, which I understand why but that’s not what I’m after. I want to hide documents that an admin is not allowed to edit but for them to be visible to the public in the front end still. I did read this http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,28399.0.html so I now know it can’t be done.

        Thanks

        • Use a different document group/user group combination; web user groups are separate from manager user groups.

          • Thank you!  I now understand what the permissions all do... I didn’t realise till now exactly how to link managers, users, groups like this.  More powerful than I first thought.  grin

              I have a similar issue...
I use one document as the "template" to duplicate por adding content,
in my case is some text TV’s, picture TVs and a text TV for adding a Vimeo
              code to embed a video.

The clients have access to that doc group but keep erasing the "template" thinking
that it is useless. Then the system works and they contact me...

What can I do so they do not have access to the "template" doc?

              • You can use the user/group/docgroup system to protect it by assigning it to a group only admin user has access to, then use the "show protected pages" option in the configuration if they need to be able to see it but not actually do anything with it. Do they need to be able to duplicate it? I’m not sure if this would allow them to do even that much with it.

Yes, they duplicate it when they click on the "Add Video" link or icon in the welcome page.
The document has a descriptive name: "For duplication only - do not touch"

                  BUT you know the clients...
I will try what you suggest to see if I can make the "template" read and duplicate only...
                  Thanks Susan...

                  • Ah, in that case, they may well still be able to duplicate it via your (I presume) custom code even if you do assign it to a different group that they can’t access.

Sorry to bring up an old post but i am not fully understanding how this works....

I want to make sure the manager user i create is not able to see the pages (resources) such as the 404, search results, rss etc...basically pages that they will not need to edit.
                      Is this possible?
I’ve created a role and manager user for this role. Then i’ve created a user group in ’manager access permissions’ called ’admin2’ and then created a resource group called ’admin2-RGroup’, so under the resource groups tab I have something that looks like this:
                      Resource Groups
                      admin2-RGroup
                      Resources in group: None.

                      Resource Groups
                      Site Admin Pages
                      Resources in group: None.,8,11,32,33

So from the above i would expect any manager user assigned to the resource group ’admin2-RGroup’ will not be able to see the pages, 8, 11, 32 and 33 in the document tree...but that isn’t the case.
When i click on page 8 for instance and view the general tab I can see at the bottom that manager access is public, but web access is private!!:
                      Web access: Private
                      Manager access: Public

                      What am i misunderstanding?

                      thanks for any help
