    Hey guys, newbie here so bear with me.
    I have MODx installed and running on my PC.
    I wanted to create a few different websites and then upload on a server later on.
    I have followed the instructions on the MODx Deutschland site and I am stuck at the end of step 1.

    * pagetitle: www.domain1.com
    * alias: domain1-com
    * TV host_url: domain1-com

    What does this relate to?
    What do I put in each of the domain name folders?

    Thanks
    Bob

      Another newbie playing with MODx and this walk through.

      I’m trying the setup using two domains.

      If I don’t enable the 404 plugin the URL links look like this:

      http://www.domain1.com/domain1-com/productsindexindex.html

      and every link I click on takes me to the generic "Install Successful" page.

      If I enable the 404 plugin the URL links look like this:

      http://www.domain1.com/domain1-com/products.html

      the default index page and every link I click on then takes me to the 404 page in the site.

      I’m trying to determine if I have an issue with the .htaccess mod_rewrite rules, the plugins/TV/chunks used, or simply messing up some other setting.

      Any suggestions? More documentation needed to hazard a guess at what is the issue?

      Best regards,

      Shawn

        What version of modx do you use? Have you installed friendly urls according to this documentation?

          Hi Andrey,

          Got the modx-1.0.2 tarball.

          I believe I setup the friendly URL’s as as documented.

          Use FriendlyURLs: yes
          Friendly URL Prefix: (left blank)
          Friendly URL Suffix: Html
          Use Friendly URL aliases: yes
          Use Friendly URL alias path: yes
          Allow duplicate URL aliases: yes
          Automatically generate URL alias: yes

          Best regards,

          Shawn

            Actually, this tutorial was made for modx0963. And I have not tested it on Evolution yet.
            So it’ll be useful experience to got it work on Evo.

              I have been able to get this to work, but I’ve noticed that when I do a wayfinder for my top domain, it will output the homepage hyperlink as being:

              www.somedomain.com/www.somedomain.com

              How do I prevent it from doing this so that the top/main domain displays the correct domain name in the hyperlink?

                I can confirm this works with Evolution 1.0.2.

                  Okay, I’ve tracked the problem.

                  The one thing the documentation doesn’t tell you is that you are being forced to use a folder structure.

                  This means, every www.somedomain.com requires a folder.

                  The solution provided by http://www.modxcms.de/multiple-domains-with-modx.html says that all I have to do is create a weblink.

                  This does not work.

                  In my wayfinder generated hyperlinks I get on the (Home) link:

                  http://www.somedomain.com/www.somedomain.com

                  This is a big issue as we have a very big website and I don’t want to go down the route of making static links.

                  In addition, the documentation says to use a beta Wayfinder, which I used; however this does not solve the above problem.

                  Therefore, there must be a solution where the wayfinder generates and displays the correct url?

                  Thanks

                    After some testing around, I found that if I remove (or un-comment) a line, the issue seems to resolve itself;

                    ie:
                    // un-commenting a line from the multisite plugin.
                    // this seems to stop the duplication of the url in the hyperlink
                    //
                    // delete our identification folder from output
                    //$modx->documentOutput=preg_replace("#/?".$host_url."/#i","/", $modx->documentOutput);

                    I’m not sure exactly what the line actually does, or why it is necessary as I have found it does not affect any of the other domains, or page searches, or google sitemaps.

                      I’ve just noticed another problem! UGH!

                      If you have a common template and use Multi-domains, then it will assume all your navigation, all your hyperlinks, all your forms to be on the domain you are wanting to point to.

                      So, all the wayfinder is screwed up because it assumes, wrongly, that I am looking for a webpage that exists on the same domain when it doesn’t.

                      ie:
                      All Wayfinder links now point to something.com/wayfinder/structure/goes/here
                      When they should be the proper top-level domain.

                      The only solution I can think of is to hard-code a template for these other domains.

                      Thanks.
