Hello all - yesterday I installed MODx on my local Linux system, and today I decided to try to install it on our production server (in a testing area).

Everything went smooth, with an exception: into the manager/includes directory there was no config.inc.php file; so I supposed it was actually the config_check.inc.php file and that it had to be renamed like it happens with installation of some software to encourage you to change config settings. I actually copied the file and renamed it config.inc.php.

The installation has been completed successfully, but in the Configuration tab in the main page of the Admin area, there is a Configuration Check window with a warning sign (!) and nothing written in it. What does it mean?

    RH9
    PHP 4.4.1
    Mysql 4

    Thanks!

You need to just create a blank config.inc.php file that can be written to during the installation. Copying config_check.inc.php is not the proper way, and may have something to do with the issue you are seeing.

Also, there is a guide to moving sites from one server to another at http://modxcms.com/moving-sites-to-new-servers.html that might provide some ideas for managing your various environments.

The config.inc.php file does not exist; it is created by the installation script. That is why the installation instructions are for *nix users to create an empty config.inc.php file and make it writable. I just make the whole manager/includes folder world-writable, then change it back after installation. Make sure that file is not world-writable after the installation; there has been an incident already of somebody hacking into a modx server and adding some kind of evil code to it.

Did you remove the install directory after the installation was finished?

Not yet, but I was going to do it as soon as I was sure I did not need to reinstall everything.

Anyhow, I tried reinstalling doing as you said but I still get the same strange warning sign? Also, if I install MODx in a https domain, are some of its functions limited (for example usage of images in the WYSIWTG editor)?

          Thanks!

Hmmm nothing to do - everything seems to work fine but I still get the warning without any text in it.

I went to back up my config file and noticed that I only had config_check.inc.php (5.1kb) and config.inc.php.blank (0kb) in my /manager directory.
The website runs fine (so far).
How do I go about making a proper config file?
The installer has been long ago deleted. Do I upload the install file from the fresh MODx download on my computer and run that again?

              What do you suggest?

The site cannot run without the config.inc.php file in the manager/includes folder.

Yes, that is what I was thinking.
                  I had left it config.inc.php.blank
When I changed it to config.inc.php and changed the permissions to 777, it seemed to write the file.

The only thing I had done was to export the database through MODx backup page.

I had installed a fresh MODx elsewhere and was bringing the current site over and noticed that the config file was not empty.

                  Cool.
