dealing with account's duration

let me know how users are registered, and how the date of expiration is arrived at

Well I ’have no idea for the moment, actually it probably will depends on the constraints coming from this account duration implementation.

The idea, is to use probably WebLoginPE, to manage the registration process (send confirmation email and so on) then if this account is being part of a certain webgroup (duration - in days - could be different depending on which webgroup we consider) the expiration date is forced to the correct date.
