    I’m installing MODx. I am supposed to provide a the inital (empty) config.inc.php?

      Yep. On a fresh install. That is your job to create at this point.

        On *nix installations only.

        If you are on windows and using apache OR windows with IIS, then installer will do it for you.

        • Or, you can just make the "manager/includes" folder world-writable (777) and then MODx will do the config file for you, then make sure to set the folder back to its original permissions after installation. Also make sure your config file is not left as world-writable! Always a good idea to take a trip through a new installation, checking on the permissions, and not have any more than you absolutely need.
