I’m beginning to work with several others on a specialty coffee site. Currently, here’s what our project is looking like:

-Multiple sections to the site devoted to different categories/varieties of product, each with a variation of the site theme. Easily done with MODx’s templating approach.

-Shopping cart/catalog integrated tightly with the product listings. Overall, the focus is not on an "inventory list," but on going directly from viewing the content to paying for it. smiley
(that sounds a little more trite than I’m meaning it, but that’s the way it comes out)

My question is especially about the last bit. Is this feasible now or shortly with MODx/shopX, etc.?

How do you plan to have people pay for the products?

How do you plan to ship the products?

How do you plan to track inventory?

Credit card...we have a merchant account/payment gateway ready to use.

How do you plan to ship the products?
        USPS Priority, at this point.

How do you plan to track inventory?
Separate mechanism, not tied to the cart.

Sounds like a little more cleaning up and a payment option processing TV and shopX would do just fine. I’ll be happy to work with you on it; I want to get it finished up, but actually don’t have such a site to develop at the moment so unless somebody else wants it it will remain on the back burner!

The catalog is pure MODx using stock menu and newslisting/bloglisting snippets, the "add to cart" and mini-cart looks good; all that needs to be done is to clean up and customize the checkout mechanism and create a couple of custom TVs for the shipping and payment options you’ll be using.

Will you want the customers to have to log in before completing an order? And will you want to store any of the customer’s data?

Well, we’re getting under way. As soon as my DNS records get updated, I’ll install MODx. Currently, porting Greenery is giving me plenty of fun.
Susan, we’re definitely interested in shopX. Of course, we’ll need to have the site actually running before we can work on it... smiley

Just about finished with an update to the core shopX system. Should be done this evening sometime. Nice stuff...the checkout shopping cart is editable; a standard form now, Ajax to come! Did the standard form first, the javascript will hide the submit button and do its Ajax thing only if the user has javascript enabled. If not, the submit button will not be hidden, and it’ll still work. Just need to clean up the shipping and payment option button bars and the user info form and it’ll be all done.

That’s awesome Susan. How easy to create a new Payment TV?
