Hello,
I am using MODx 1.0.4. When I create a new web user, he gets an email notification with his login details. As I am German and the website is targeted to a german user group, the email uses german text with Umlauts.
The problem is that my email client (Thunderbird, Windows) does not correctly display the emails. It looks like the email is coded as utf-8 but it is displayed as if it were iso-8859. Well, I just checked it. It does not only look like, but it is so in deed. If I force Thunderbird to use utf-8 the umlauts are correctly displayed.
I assume that the email with the login details lacks information on the used character encoding. How can I fix that?
My website is setup with utf-8.
Thanks in advance
Martin

When you say that your "website was setup using utf-8", do you mean the database is using UTF-8?
It’d be a bummer if the data sanitization is filtering out the ü and ä characters... is there any way you can check the contents of the database directly to see if the text made it in ok?
Well, this is quite weird. I wanted to test this on one of my installs, but...
Even when I have the site settings = german, my main admin manager user (id 1) is set to german AND the new manager user all set to german, the login email confirmation is still in english! Clearing browser cache + logging in + out of MODx didn’t help either... (Evo 1.0.4)
Is this a bug? Where do I have to change language settings to take effect for signup emails?

OK, so even if the email text is still in english only, I tested it now simply with using umlauts in the actual username: The confirmation email is OK ("Hello René François" ...)
And the actual login works too with the umlauts.
Everything is set to UTF-8 here as well. Using Thunderbird.
Ok, this is interesting. I’ve just created a Manager User and the e-mail came in with special characters displayed correctly. The only difference from previous e-mail I could find was that this time Content-Transfer-Encoding header was set to quote-printable (not BASE64). Could that be the cause of the problem? If so, how can I specify this value? I was encountering the above-mentioned problem when creating Web User accounts.
Update: There is still one problem with the e-mail regarding Manager User registration: the subject line is not displaying international characters, starts with =?UTF-8?Q? and ends with ?=
Thanks a lot!
