Issues adding new users

I am using MODx Revolution 2.0.0-beta-4 rev5880. Only the user that is created during the setup is able to login.

I can successfully create new users and add to groups & roles but these users cannot login. Trying to do so a dialog pops up with "The username or password you entered is incorrect. Please check the username, re-type the password, and try again". The username/password details are correct so this must be masking some other error.

Examining the user account there is no information stored in the Login options for number of logins, last login or number of failed logins.

Attempting to save any user after an update a "Please Wait..." dialog appears with a
"Saving..." progress bar. This bar goes in an infinite loop and never finishes. Have to F5 to get away from the page and then can see no update has been performed.

I need a stable platform, should I downgrade to version 1?
