    Hi,

On our school site we want to start using user authentication for the 20 groups. Our idea is to give every class 1 login, leading to 20 different web users.
Are there any cons against giving 25 parents access to the site using the same login? Is it even possible to access the site twice (at the same time) using one login?

The big advantage of this is that we control the web user management and don’t generate 400+ separate web user accounts.

    Thanks.

As long as it’s read-only plus an email form, you should be fine.

If you allow comments ont he site, however, the down side is that if the credentials get out (and they almost certainly will), you’ll have no way of telling who is posting the crap you’ll see. wink

Hmm, that’s a good point. We do allow comments, however all comments are moderated. As currently setup, if logged in as a web user, the name field disappears in the Jot template, only subject and message remains. Therefore, all comments from 1 login appear to be from the same user (in fact, they ARE from the same web user, but this can be 25 different parents)....

Is there a possibility in Jot to still have web users enter their name when logged in?

I don’t know, but I think most would enter it at the end of the message (you could put up a message asking them to do that).

The alternative would be to have them self-register and have their own accounts, then put them all in the same user group.

The issue I have with self-register is that there are 20 different web groups and I would have to create a account creation page that puts new users in different groups based on which group their child is in. Although this seems entirely possible with Modx, it isn’t foolproof, i.e. people can create an account for a group they don’t belong to, right?

Would it help if I asked the Jot question in the Jot forum again? Thanks.

If I remember well Jot allows custom fields and you can also set up that those fields are required.
I think posting with Jot will work but you might need to customize.
