I just downloaded MODx. Haven’t even installed it yet.
I opened datagrid.class.php and read the copyright :
Based on CLASP 2.0 (www.claspdev.com)".
So I went to
http://www.claspdev.com/ and I was surprised by the description : " Classic ASP Framework."
I was even more surprised about all the functionality I could try out interactively from "Samples >> Controls >> DataGrid" in the tree menu.
So, is everything in "Samples >> Controls >> DataGrid" in the tree menu included in de MODx version ?
Because this would mean I could create comparison functionality like this :
http://www.watchguard.com/products/compare.asp?nav=.
Without the graphics ofcourse. But that would be handled by formatting in template variables, if I understand the concept correctly.
EDIT :
***Cough!*** Widgets are used to format/display the contents of template variables. ***Cough!***
Learning all the time.

EDIT 2:
Got
something similar like this working.
But I guess
MakeForm and
MakeTable would have done the same, and probably much faster.
I just wish somebody would have given a hint to the existence of these two classes.
Wasted too much time with something trivial like this (2 evenings) : A form with 6 dropdown selects, and a result page displaying a grid filled with columns retrieved with SQL from 2 tables.
A framework should also include some form of wizardry in my opinion to almost eliminate the task of creating simple things like forms and dropdowns, selection lists, and WHY.
I removed MODx from my hosting a/c, for now.
Read this earlier today :
http://ajaxian.com/archives/modx-cms-an-ajaxphp-content-system#comments so I haven’t given up. I’m still using MODx as a reference when testing others.
I’ll checkout some other frameworks to see what’s going on there.
