Some quick questions I would apprecite answers on for clarification please

When URL linking to documents (Say to Document ID 4) from within the content of any page, if you then move document 4 somewhere else, say into a folder will the links be maintained, I tried and it seemed OK.

Also if you change to friendly URL’s will the links (via ID) still be OK on the above basis and if you started out linking to the alias, and moved document 4 (say about us)to another folder would that still be OK (or would you always specify links to document ID’s and not document names.

If a document is deleted, when you add a new one, would that then use was was the other documents ID or are these never reused in a site.

I did look at the documentation but could not find the answers there

When a document is created, it is given an automatic ID. Everything is dependent on that ID. You can move the document anywhere you like, and its ID does not change, only its Parent’s ID. The alias you give a document when you create it also does not change. Links can be specified either with document ID, or in some cases by alias.

Document IDs are assigned by the MySQL database when the data for a document is entered, the ID is automatically generated via Auto-Increment, so unless you go and meddle with the database itself, it will never use the same ID again.

Great Thanks Susan, very much appriciated

I think, having developed static XHTML /CSSP sites for so long now that I make assumptions based on the way I used to work. It is starting to sink in, although slowly but overall there are substancial benefits to developing future sites dynamically and I look forward to getting good with Modx and producing some nice template layouts
