I installed modx and have configured a site on it. I want to create webuser accounts to allow certain people to edit certain pages.

I thought i understood the process. Here is my understanding:

    page1, page2, page3
    and user1, user2, user3

if i wanted user1 to only be able to edit page1, user 2 page 2, etc, then i’d create 3 document groups:

    docgroup1, docgroup2, docgroup3

    then, 3 web users groups, webgroup1, webgroup2, webgroup3.

then, i’d use the web permissions to link webgroup1 to docgroup1, webgroup2 to docgroup2, etc.

    finally, i’d assign page1 to docgroup1, page2 to docgroup2, etc.

What i’m experiencing is that as soon as i link a page to a doc group, it becomes private. User1 is the only one that can "see" page1 now, but still cannot edit it.

So is there some other sequence i should be adjusting? or some other place to change settings? How do you assign a page to a document group while still allowing it to be published for the public?

As it stands now, i can log in to the site via the web users logins, but am unable to edit any pages. (that makes sense if you should only be able to edit docs in your group, but wouldnt public docs be editable by any web user?) Or really, the ideal would be to be able to make a page placed into a document group editable to the group but still be accessible to browsers.

hope that made sense. thanks for any help you can give.

There are two types of users and groups, web users and manager users. It sounds like you created web groups and users instead of manager groups and users. Documents groups are the same, but if a document group is connected to a web user group, then only logged-in web users can see it. If the same document group is connected to a manager user group, then only the logged-in manager users can edit it. It can be a bit murky until you get used to the idea.

OH! That explains so much. Thank you.

So if only managers can edit pages... is there a way to allow people a means to log in similar to the web login snippet, but will log them in as a manager? (but not take them to the /manager page)?

        thanks!

Yes, there is, but I’m still learning that myself! I’m sure one of the other readers will be better able to explain it to you.
