I had the exact same problem when I set up NewsEditor. And the problem was in the custom form I was using. I had adapted it from the NewsPublisher snippet and without changing anything, it would appear as if nothing had happened.
I needed to make several changes to the old NewsPublisher default form to get it to look like the default form in NewsEditor. The first three lines needed to look like this
<form name="NewsEditor" method="post" action="[~[*id*]~]"> <!--MattC added action -->
<input name="NewsEditorForm" type="hidden" value="on" />
<input name="editid" type="hidden" value="[+editid+]" /> <!-- MattC added -->
and in all cases the phrase "NewsPublisher" needed to be changed to "NewsEditor". I think there were six places this occurred.
I also edited the snippet to accept a "cacheable" flag to be passed along to the document being created.
Hope this helps.
