    Hi everyone,

This is my very first post. I have looked through the documetation but would stil be very grateful for answers to a couple of question.

I actually arrived here following a recommendation from davidm on the textpattern forum. I was just starting to evaluate texpattern fully and started building my first commercial website when i hit a lot of problems with sub-sections, something that is not a problem with Modx.

Anyway to be honest i am trying to avoid spending hours (like i did with textpattern) learning the key features to then find such problems. My sites are mostly small business sites although some do get quite big.

From what i have seen so far, when adding new content you create a new page first and then add the content. What I would like to know is my understanding correct?

Secondly, if you have a news section and you want to display this news topics title and its excerpt on say "the latest news of the home page" can that be done. Does not matter how, just need to know that you can display parts of a story on other pages, another example may be a "listing of all news items on the news home page" that have links to the news stories (articles) that have been added

I hope that makes sense and I appriciate any feedback

      Welcome to MODx!!!

Your understanding of content is correct except you can add content when you create the page as well as afterwards.

As to the news section, that is completely possible and the demo site has a great example. Just make sure to check the "Install Demo Site" checkbox when installing to see what I mean.

      Best of luck with MODx!!!

As far as a news "teaser" on the front page, for one site I use the NewsListing snippet twice on the home page, once for a summary of the latest news, and once for a random "cutomer quote"...on four different "home" pages in four languages. The NewsListing snippet is very flexible. (the "reandom item" feature is a custom modification to the basic NewsListing snippet). Plus, the same NewsListing snippet is used in each language’s News page to display several summaries and a list of older news items.

          Thank you Mark,

Thats great news (and a quick response)

Well I think Modx is looking like the right product for me. I am pretty new to PHP (But my partner is the programmer) and I am the designer.

I am experienced with XHTML and CSS-P which I have used every day for the last 2 years building my customers small business sites so whilst I am unlikely to offer help to the forum on PHP I am sure I can help out on more complex CSS questions if they arise.

You have a nice product in Modx and the development team seems pretty passionate about the future, I look forward to working with the software and thanks again

Thank you. Maybe I am being a little stupid but where can I can the NewsListing Snippet to read about as well as other add-ons?
