I’m planning on using MODx to power a website for my fraternity alumni association. I’d like to include some additional information in the user registration process so that the information can be used in an alumni directory of sorts. I’m thinking of things like graduation year, roll number, offices held, that sort of information. I haven’t looked at the user manipulation code yet, but I thought I’d post here to try to gauge the level of effort to do something like this with a plugin or module rather than hacking the core.
I’m reasonably familiar with PHP and MySQL, so writing the code is something I’d be willing and able to do, but I’d prefer not to change any core files if possible. For those more familiar with the MODx codebase, does this sound possible as a plugin/module, or am I definitely in core hacking territory here? Has there been any work done to make a more flexible user management framework that allows for custom fields like this? I did a little bit of searching through here but didn’t see anything obvious.
As I’m making my first post, I wanted to say that so far I’m quite impressed with this project. The code looks pretty good, the functionality is great, and the community seems very supportive. I’ve been lurking on the forums and such for a few weeks and think I’ll be sticking around. Great job everyone, keep up the good work!
Regards,
Jason
I’ve been considering this also...
I think instead of hacking the original table, it might be wiser to add another table and use
MODx’s DBAPI to link it to the existing web user table.
That’s how I would tackle the problem.
P.S. Welcome to MODx, Jason.
Are you using Evo if so you can use webLogin PE and add custom fields.
If Revo the login 3PC can help see documentation
You can also add another database and extend existing table using key field in Revo.
