I started a test site w/o friendly URL’s (because of 0-day newbie ignorance) and entered some pages. NB: their aliases must exactly mimic the names of old site static links, to avoid links rotting. Menu is statically hardcoded into template.

Then i turned on friendly URL’s with empty prefix and ’.html’ posfix, and cut ’.html’ off my pages aliases.

And many pages gone 404 (MODx error page w/ template), while two other do show OK !
I erased one page and re-created it anew - no effect ! I inspected hardcoded menu - no stray symbols, only ’_’ could be in question, but one of "good" pages has it also !

Note: the pages fail to show only by aliases, by number they all do show - but this is NOT what i need.

      Hi,

Did you modify the ht.access files for your specific installation, and rename it to .htaccess ?

Else, friendly urls wont’ work ;-)

      Greetz,

        1) Renamed, not modified - default install to root dir.
        2) URL’s work partially, not fail at all. So it seems to be some subtle bug, not a brutal misconfiguration.

            Yes ! But all failing articles are root-pathed ( /wholesale.html ), where is only 1 folder-pathed and it works ( /news/15-nov-2005.html )

Turn off friendly alias paths, then! lol (it’s always been flakey to me in the way it works... you get it to work by setting a base href= in the header).

Hm, disabling friendly path did work. But what if i have folder structure and must duplicate it to avoid links rotting ??
What about "base href=", how to set it for right working paths ?

If you are using 0.9.0, and have friendly alias paths enabled, the following code is inserted into your document before parsing is completed...

                  <base href="[(site_url)]" />

This ensures that all relative links start from the appropriate place. In addition, a defect in the MODx API function makeUrl() was just fixed (see http://modxcms.com/bugs/task/108 and http://modxcms.com/bugs/task/109 as well as http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,1375.msg9512.html#msg9512) that forces all URL’s generated internally by the parser (and when called in snippets like WebLogin) to be prefixed with the base_url setting, forcing the generated URLs to reference back to the webroot and find the proper path. This fix can be applied manually now, and will be available in the next release (0.9.1).

Sorry, i was stupid like a cork - problem solved, then turning on paths i forgot what my wrong docs were under folder.

BUT... My old site has flat structure - almost (NB!) everything in a root directory, about a hundred pages or more.
How can i organize docs in CMS tree and still have different tree in URL’s ?
Disable friendly paths and write folders to aliases as needed ?

I’m not sure I understand why you would organize them one way in the document tree and want another way to reference the files via URL. What is the purpose of the structure in the document tree if it is not to represent the URL structure of the site?

You could always create a separate tree and create link documents that point to the aliases you create in the existing document tree. However, since I don’t fully understand the problem, I’ll wait for more information before I offer any more possible solutions.
